Inclusive Skill Development Centers for Persons with Disabilities
Inclusive Skill Development Centers for Persons with Disabilities
Problem Statement
Persons with disabilities (PwDs) in India face significant barriers to employment, with only 34% of working-age PwDs employed compared to the national average of 75%. In Karnataka, approximately 1.3 million PwDs lack access to appropriate skill development opportunities due to inaccessible facilities, untrained instructors, and limited adaptive technologies.
Proposed Solution
We propose establishing 10 fully accessible skill development centers across Karnataka, equipped with assistive technologies, trained instructors, and disability-friendly infrastructure. The centers will offer courses in digital skills, manufacturing, hospitality, and entrepreneurship, tailored to different disability types and market demands.
Expected Impact
This initiative aims to train 5,000 PwDs annually, achieve 70% employment placement, increase average income by 150%, and create a replicable model for inclusive skill development. It will also raise awareness among 500+ employers about the capabilities and rights of PwDs.
Resources Required
The project requires ₹12 crore for implementation, including infrastructure development, equipment, curriculum development, and operational costs for 3 years. We seek partnerships with government skill development agencies, disability rights organizations, corporate employers, and assistive technology providers.
